The work explores the most crucial problems of fundamental contemporary theology as well as the self-understanding of the Church as a historical reality. The work also explores the specific relationships that are established between the “individual” and the “universal.” The hermeneutical (regarding the importance of language and culture), societal (the relationship between tradition and multiple societies in a postmodern context) and ecclesiastical issues (since it is the same concept of the Church) reinforce the current relevance of this analysis. English summary: What is tradition? What is its significance for human life and for pluralistic societies in an unprecedented gathering of cultures? How can the Church, as a symbol of universal salvation, make its catholicity more effective? Considering all these issues in a context characterized by an epistemological pluralism of thought, language and history, this book presents the essential determinations of a historically and culturally open catholicity. A ce titre, il touche aussi bien aux problemes les plus cruciaux de la theologie fondamentale contemporaine qu’… l’auto-comprehension de l’Eglise comme realite historique et … la question plus large, au sein meme de cette auto-comprehension, des rapports specifiques qui s’instaurent entre le particulier et l’universel. Les enjeux hermeneutique (avec l’importance du langage et de la culture), societal (sur les rapports entre tradition et societes multiples dans un contexte postmoderne) et ecclesial (puisqu’il en va de la conception meme de l’Eglise) ne font que renforcer l’actualite d’une telle reflexion.
