ISD works with more than one hundred academic publishers, each of which maintains its own policies regarding review copies. In most cases, reviewers should contact the publisher directly to request a review copy.
If you are unable to locate the publisher’s review copy policy or contact information, ISD may be able to assist by forwarding your request to the publisher for consideration.
Please note that all review copy requests are subject to publisher approval. ISD cannot guarantee that a review copy will be provided.
Requesting a Review Copy
To help facilitate your request, please include:
- The title, author, and publisher of the requested book
- Your name and institutional or publication affiliation
- The publication, website, journal, blog, or media outlet for which the review is being written
- The expected publication date of the review, if known
- A link to your publication or organization
Providing complete information will help publishers evaluate requests more efficiently.
Print and Digital Review Copies
Review copies may be provided in print or digital format, depending on publisher preference and availability.
Many publishers offer DRM-protected PDF or EPUB review copies. ISD encourages the use of digital review copies whenever possible, as they allow for faster delivery and broader access while reducing shipping costs and delays. The format of any review copy is determined solely by the publisher.
International Requests
Depending on publisher policy, review copies may be shipped directly by the publisher or fulfilled by ISD on the publisher’s behalf.
For review copies shipped by ISD, recipients are responsible for any customs duties, import taxes, VAT, brokerage fees, or other charges assessed by their country or local authorities. ISD is not responsible for these fees and cannot reimburse or prepay them on behalf of recipients.
