Zentraleuropäische Jesuitenmissionare auf der Schwelle nach Übersee (1660–1760)

Die Neue Welt war der Sehnsuchtsort vieler Missionare der Fruhen Neuzeit. Vor allem die Jesuiten halfen dabei, den katholischen Glauben uber die Rander der damaligen Welt hinaus zu tragen. Ab Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts nahmen an der globalen Mission hunderte Jesuiten aus Zentraleuropa teil. Die Reise in die Neue Welt war voller Risiken und Unwagbarkeiten. Der Weg fuhrte die Missionare zunachst uber das Mittelmeer nach Spanien. In den andalusischen Hafenstadten mussten sie auf die Weiterfahrt uber den Atlantik warten – einige wenige Monate, andere mehrere Jahre. Die vorliegende Studie nimmt diese Wartezeit in den Blick und untersucht die Lebens- und Gefuhlswelt der zentraleuropaischen Jesuiten auf der Schwelle nach Ubersee.
