La figure biblique du juste et ses enjeux théologiques dans le Nouveau Testament

Biblical texts regularly refer to the figure of the righteous, without characterizing or defining it. It is obvious that the figure is not a homogeneous one, and its portrayals vary according to context. This edited volume attempts to clarify some of its contours and the theological issues it covers, particularly in the New Testament and writings from related literature. The journey through the various corpora shows that the figure of the just is part of the expectation of divine justice deployed in a history of salvation in which both singular personalitiesJesus, the Master of Justiceand collective figures play a major role. Behind these figures, often idealized, are historical contexts in which the cause of the just faces an environmentcommunal, social, or politicalthat follows its own demands for justice, sometimes turning the righteous into a tragic figure who will inspire future generations.
Les textes bibliques renvoient regulierement a la figure du juste, sans pour autant la caracteriser, ni la definir. A l’evidence, il ne s’agit pas d’une figure homogene et les portraits qu’elle decline varient suivant les contextes. Ce collectif s’attache a en preciser quelques contours et les enjeux theologiques qu’elle recouvre, en particulier dans le Nouveau Testament et certains ecrits issus de la litterature connexe. Le parcours effectue dans les differents corpus montre que la figure du juste s’inscrit dans l’attente d’une justice divine deployee dans une histoire du salut o- aussi bien des personnalites singulieres – Jesus, le Maitre de justice – que des figures collectives jouent un role majeur. Derriere ces figures, souvent idealisees, se dessinent des contextes historiques o- la cause du juste se heurte a un environnement – communautaire, social ou politique – qui suit ses exigences propres en matiere de justice, faisant parfois du juste une figure tragique qui inspirera les generations futures.
