The temple of Satis is located in southern Egypt on Nile island of Elephantine near the modern city of Aswan. It is the only known provincial temple whose development can be tracked over a long period of time. The oldest parts of the temples date back into Egyptian pre-history and extend over three-thousand years, which offers a site rich in archeological information. More than 33,000 objects from the temple of Satis are examined in this work, which were documented during the excavation by the German Archeological Institute in the immediate area of the temple. The majority of the artefacts date from the 6th to the 18th Dynasties (2 to 3 thousand years BCE). Among the finds, gifts from foundation depots of new temple buildings of the Middle and New Kingdom were identified, as well as decorative architectural elements from the Old Kingdom. The inventory of finds from the temple offer important evidence for the daily ritual practices across time.

A local deity, Satis was revered in the sanctuary on the island and was associated both with the annual flood of the Nile and with the protection of the southern border, and thus had significance for all of Egypt. More than 33,000 objects from the temple of Satis are examined in this work, which were documented during the excavation by the German Archeological Institute in the immediate area of the temple. The majority of the artefacts date from the 6th to the 18th Dynasties (2 to 3 thousand years BCE). Among the finds, gifts from foundation depots of new temple buildings of the Middle and New Kingdom were identified, as well as decorative architectural elements from the Old Kingdom. The inventory of finds from the temple offer important evidence for the daily ritual practices across time. The largest group of artefacts are votive offerings, which include not only items from daily life but also specially made votive gifts, whose form and appearance is determined by religious practices as well as the socio-economic background of the individual giver, which can be seen through the ages and which offers information about the votive practices of the local population. In the concluding catalog section, numerous objects are described and presented in illustrations along with note about their archaeological context. German description: Der Tempel der Satet liegt im sudlichen Agypten auf der Nilinsel Elephantine vor der heutigen Stadt Assuan. Er ist der einzige erhaltene Provinztempel, dessen Entwicklung sich uber einen langeren Zeitraum nachvollziehen lasst. Die altesten Uberreste datieren bis in die Agyptische Vorgeschichte zuruck und stehen am Beginn einer 3000-jahrigen Geschichte reicher archaologischer Hinterlassenschaften. Die im Heiligtum verehrte lokale Gottheit Satet stand sowohl mit der jahrlichen Nilflut als auch mit dem Schutz der sudlichen Landesgrenze in Beziehung und hatte somit Bedeutung fur ganz Agypten. Im zweiten Band zu den Funden aus dem Satettempel werden mehr als 33.000 Objekte untersucht, die bei den Ausgrabungen des Deutschen Archaologischen Instituts im direkten Tempelbereich dokumentiert wurden. Die Mehrzahl von ihnen datiert in die 6. bis 18. Dynastie (2./3. Jahrtausend v.Chr.). Identifiziert wurden unter den Fundstucken Beigaben aus Grundungsdepots von Tempelneubauten des Mittleren und Neuen Reichs sowie dekorative Architekturelemente aus dem Alten Reich. Gerate fur die taglichen Kulthandlungen lassen auf das Inventar des Tempels schlieAen. Die groate Gruppe von Funden sind jedoch Weihgaben, darunter nicht nur GegenstAnnde des taglichen Lebens, sondern auch speziell gefertigte Votive. Ihr Auftreten wird von den religiosen Praktiken wie auch vom sozio-okonomischen Hintergrund im Wandel der Zeit bestimmt und gibt Aufschluss uber die Votivpraktiken der lokalen Bevolkerung. In einem abschlieaenden Katalogteil werden zahlreiche mit Zeichnungen illustrierte Objekte beschrieben und in ihrem archaologischen Kontext vorgestellt.
