English summary: The last king of the First Dynasty, Qa’a, was entombed around 2800 BCE in Umm al-Qaab. In the underground mudbrick building, the royal burial chamber is surrounded by additional burial chambers as well as storage room for funerary goods. The tomb was modified and enlarged over nearly twenty years during Qa’a’s reign to meet changing requires, a fact which is represented here in the results of the follow-up study of the German Archeological Institute in Cairo. Through these changes, the tomb represents a typological link between the tombs of the First Dynasty in Abydos and the Second Dynasty in Saqqara. The finds within the tomb reflect the relationship between the king and his environment: the people and things in the adjoining tombs should help to provide an image of the court in service to the king during in the afterlife. At the end of the 19th century, excavation began in Umm el-Qaab and inventories of the grave goods were made by the archeologists so that the grave goods could be kept in their original context on the one hand and intrusive objects could be separated from the original on the other. This careful preservation of the state of the find ensures the dating of the tomb of Qa’a can be safely used a s a reference for other burial from the end of First Dynasty. German description: Der letzte Konig der 1. Dynastie, Qa’a, wurde gegen 2800 v.Chr. in Umm el-Qaab bestattet. In dem unterirdischen Lehmziegelgebaude ist die konigliche Grabkammer von Raumen fur weitere Bestattungen und Magazinen fur Beigaben umgeben. Das Grab wurde im Laufe der uber 20-jahrigen Regierungszeit des Konigs mehrfach an geanderte Anforderungen angepasst und erweitert, wie die hier prasentierten Ergebnisse der Nachuntersuchungen des Deutschen Archaologischen Instituts in Kairo zeigen konnten. Durch diese Veranderungen stellt das Grab ein typologisches Bindeglied zwischen den Grabern der 1. Dynastie in Abydos und der 2. Dynastie in Saqqara dar. Die Verteilung der Funde innerhalb des Grabes wiederum spiegelt das Verhaltnis des Konigs zu seiner Umwelt wider: Beigaben und Personen in den Nebengrabern sollten als Abbild des Hofstaats der Versorgung des Konigs im Jenseits dienen. Bei den Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts begonnenen Ausgrabungen in Umm el-Qaab wurden Umschichtungen des beweglichen Inventars der Graber vorgenommen, sodass das Fundmaterial in originare Bestandteile der Grabausstattung und Beigaben einerseits sowie intrusive Objekte andererseits genau getrennt werden musste. So kann die datierende Funktion der Artefakte aus dem Grab des Qa’a gewahrleistet und an anderen Grabungsplatzen als Referenz fur das Ende der 1. Dynastie herangezogen werden.
