Das hebraische Buch Ijob (Hiob) ist nicht nur in theologischer Hinsicht ein sperriger Text, sondern auch sprachlich schwer erschliessbar. Unter anderem liegt das an zahlreichen Wortern, deren Bedeutung unbekannt oder umstritten ist. Juliane Eckstein nimmt sich einiger besonders schwieriger Lexeme in der zweiten Rede des Protagonisten an (Ijob 6-7) und geht deren Bedeutung auf den Grund. Dafur kommen etablierte Methoden der exegetischen Forschung zum Einsatz, aber auch eine Methode, die in der alttestamentlichen Forschung bisher unbekannt ist: die Isotopieanalyse. Dabei handelt es sich um ein gestuftes, teils visuelles und grafisches Verfahren, mit dem sich die spezifische Bedeutung eines einzelnen Wortes aus seinem Kontext erschliessen lasst. Zudem legt diese Methode die semantische Struktur des gesamten Textes offen. Im Zusammenspiel der bekannten und der neuen Methodik gelingt es, die umstrittenen lexikalischen Fragen zu klaren.
