Le livre III du De finibus est un des plus elegants exposes de philosophie stoicienne. Elle n’y est pas toute, evidemment. C’est Caton, le sage mort a Utique, qui est cense parler. Parler en stoicien exige une reflexion sur le style, le style de la philosophie en general, et de la philosophie stoicienne en particulier. On touche la au grand probleme de Ciceron, qui est de donner la philosophie a Rome, en la faisant passer du grec au latin. Et ce que montre Caton, c’est comment le sage est a la fois ne pour un epanouissement et revele par une rupture qui le fait d’une essence specifique. De la grace d’etre sage?
