Christopher Marlowe (Canterbury, 1564-Londres, 1593), poete dramatique anglais, est l’un des grands elisabethains et le plus important devancier de Shakespeare: Tamerlan le Grand (1587), Le Juif de Malte (1589), Edouard II (v. 1592). En 1588, il transpose le recit mythique de Faust.
