This book is a study of the architecture and decoration of the mosaic floors of the Roman private spaces of Bulla Regia, located in the northwest of Tunisia. The book is divided into six chapters which offer a complete overview of both the city in general and the domestic architecture and mosaic decoration of each of the domus.
Las domus de Bulla Regia (Tunez): arquitectura y decoracion musiva representa una contribucion al estudio de la arquitectura y la decoracion musivaria de los espacios privados romanos de Bulla Regia, situada al noroeste de Tunez, en una region rica y prospera gracias a su agricultura y produccion oleicola. Este libro constituye una monografia – la unica hasta la fecha en lengua castellana – referida al conjunto del estudio de la arquitectura y decoracion musiva de los espacios domesticos en Bulla Regia. Sus posibilidades como yacimiento musivo permiten desarrollar un mayor conocimiento sobre el mosaico romano norteafricano. El libro se estructura en cinco capitulos y un catalogo en los que se ofrece una completa vision tanto de la ciudad en general como de la arquitectura domestica y decoracion musiva de cada una de sus domus. El primer capitulo esta dedicado a presentar brevemente el contexto geografico, asi como su desarrollo historico y urbanistico, desde epoca prerromana hasta epoca medieval. El segundo capitulo se consagra al estudio historiografico de sus espacios privados. El tercer capitulo se dedica a cuestiones generales sobre la arquitectura domestica. El cuarto capitulo – el mas extenso de este libro – se centra en el estudio particularizado, desde el punto de vista arqueologico-arquitectonico y decorativo, de diecinueve domus y otras estructuras arquitectonicas parcialmente excavadas. El quinto capitulo se dedica a cuestiones generales y tipologicas relativas a la decoracion de las casas. Por ultimo, este volumen se concluye con un catalogo exhaustivo de los mosaicos documentados en ambito domestico en la ciudad, con la finalidad de contribuir, de este modo, a la divulgacion y ampliacion del conocimiento del rico patrimonio musivo de una de las ciudades mas importantes del Africa Proconsularis.
