Die vorliegenden Aufsatze von Matthias Kockert behandeln Texte und Themen der Erzvateruberlieferung wie Gen 12-13 (Verheissung und Erfullung), Gen 15 (Glaube und Gerechtigkeit), Gen 16 und 17 (Bund und Erwahlung), Gen 28 (Land und Tempel) und Gen 32 (Damonen, Engel, Gottesboten). Dabei verhilft durchgehend die Beantwortung literar- und kompositionsgeschichtlicher Fragen zur Klarheit, zuweilen auch die Erhellung der Rezeptionsgeschichte einzelner Texte innerhalb der Bibel (Abraham ausserhalb der Tora, Jakob in Hos 12), im antiken Judentum (Gen 15,6 in Qumran, Jub u.a.) und bei Paulus (Rom 4). Eine Skizze der Entstehung des Buches Genesis im Ganzen und in seinen Teilen eroffnet den Band; die Wurdigung der Auslegung von Gen 12-25 durch Augustinus in De civitate Dei schliesst ihn ab.
