Ulrich Luz legt in diesem Band theologische, ekklesiologische, hermeneutische, religionsgeschichtliche und biographisch-autobiographische Studien und Skizzen vor, darunter manche unveroffentlichte Texte. Sie kreisen um Grundfragen der Theologie, der Hermeneutik und der Kirche. Viele packen “heisse Eisen” an und hinterfragen zum Beispiel das Verhaltnis zwischen Theologie und Religionswissenschaft. Ulrich Luz untersucht auch, was Aggressionspotentiale im Neuen Testament mit dem Absolutheitsanspruch des Christentums zu tun haben und ob die Kirchenfinanzen zu den Grundmerkmalen von Kirche gehoren. Neben der Frage, was aus protestantischer Sicht die Bedeutung der Tradition der Kirchenvater fur die Interpretation der Bibel ist, untersucht er auch, ob der Sinn neutestamentlicher Texte unbegrenzt-offen, d.h. beliebig, ist, sodass jede Interpretation moglich ist und wie dann eine Verstandigung uber den Sinn der biblischen Texte in den Kirchen und in der Okumene noch moglich ist.
