German description: Die Samuelbucher sind ein literarisches Werk und eine historische Quelle ersten Ranges. Sie berichten von der fruhen Konigszeit Altisraels. Im zweiten Samuelbuch spielt Konig David die Hauptrolle. Literarisch und historisch bedeutsam sind indes die Nachrichten nicht nur uber ihn, sondern uber eine ganze Reihe literarischer Figuren und historischer Personlichkeiten in seinem Umfeld: Mitglieder der koniglichen Familie wie einfache Leute, Generale, Ratgeber, Propheten, Priester, Wachter, Soldner, Diener. Die Erzahler der Samuelbucher geben solchen Nebenfiguren nicht nur Namen, sondern oft hochst eindruckliche Gesichter; sie erwahnen nicht nur ihre Existenz, sondern schildern einzelne ihrer Aktionen. Sie schopfen dabei aus alteren Quellen, gestalten aber auch aus eigener Intuition. So schaffen sie ein ungemein farben- und facettenreiches Historiengemalde uber die Zeit des Konigs David. In diesem Band beleuchten zweiundzwanzig Forscherinnen und Forscher aus acht verschiedenen Landern die verschiedenen Nebenfiguren des zweiten Samuelbuches. Anlass dazu gab ein Fachsymposium in Bern im September 2009 und eine Sondersession im Rahmen des Kongresses der International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament in Helsinki im August 2010. Die Beitrage ergeben zusammen ein Gesamtbild, das in seiner Vielgestaltigkeit und gleichzeitigen Geschlossenheit demjenigen des zweiten Samuelbuchs nicht unahnlich ist.
