Der Skarabaus, in Agypten ab dem Mittleren Reich in Massenproduktion gefertigt, wurde im 1. Jahrtausend v. Chr. in der Alten Welt geradezu inflationar. Zusatzlich zur Produktion in und fur Agypten begannen Werkstatten, insbesondere in Naukratis, diese kleinen Objekte fur die Mittelmeerwelt herzustellen. Daneben entwickelte sich die seit der Mittelbronzezeit ebenfalls reichlich belegte Produktion von Siegelamuletten in Vorderasien weiter. Die eisenzeitlichen Produktionen sind jedoch – im Vergleich zu denen des 2. Jahrtausends – sowohl fur den agyptischen Kulturraum als fur Vorderasien deutlich weniger erforscht. In einem Workshop in Munster trafen sich Spezialisten aus den Bereichen Agyptologie, Vorderasiatische Archaologie und Klassische Archaologie, um das Forschungspotential von Skarabaen des 1. Jahrtausends zu diskutieren und jungste Untersuchungsergebnisse vorzustellen. So sind in diesem Sammelband erstmalig Studien zu Skarabaen des 1. Jahrtausends aus der Groaregion des ostlichen Mittelmeerraumes unter Einbeziehung von Agypten und Nubien vereint und deuten den globalen Charakter dieser spezifischen Artefaktgruppe an.
