How controversial is the Book of Ruth? Is marriage to a foreign woman presumed to be unproblematic or discussed? Deborah Storek sees a subtle controversy in the narrative depiction of marriage as the fulfilment of two legal customs (levirate and redemption) as well as in discursive intertextual allusions to other biblical texts.
Wozu wurde das Ruthbuch verfasst? Die alte Frage aus dem Midrasch polarisiert die Forschung bis heute. Umstritten ist vor allem, ob sich das Buch kritisch in der nachexilischen Mischehendiskussion positioniert. Deborah Storek ruckt dazu die Rechtsdarstellung und intertextuellen Anspielungen in den Blick. Die rechtlichen Besonderheiten des Ruthbuchs werden als narrative Umgestaltung von bekannten Brauchen und Texten untersucht. Wahrend Ruth 4 aus dem Leviratsgesetz Dtn 25,5-10 zitiert und das Gesetz als Vorlage nutzt, beruht die Gestaltung der Losung nicht auf Lev 25, sondern auf der lebensweltlichen Relevanz der Loserinstitution. Dieser Familienbrauch bezieht gezielt eine Fremde ein. Auch intertextuelle Anspielungen zeigen eine Diskussion der Ehe. Mithilfe einer literaturwissenschaftlich fundierten Methodik weist die Autorin manche bisher behaupteten Textbezuge zuruck und untersucht andere naher.
