English summary: This is the first systematic study of the “marbling” of the city of Leptis Magna, examining the importation of white and colored marbles used in the different public and private buildings throughout the city. Following a brief overview of the role of marble in the Roman world, the author proceeds to specific studies on the provenance and use of marble in Leptis Magna.
