Le langage et l’emotion – joie, tristesse, peur, colere ou surprise – est-il le meme chez les Mayas du Mexique, les habitants des Iles Trobriand, les Inuit du Canada, les Madourais d’Indonesie, les Kanak de Nouvelle Caledonie, les locuteurs de l’anglais, les anciens Egyptiens ou d’autres encore? Comment maitriser, communiquer et sublimer ces emotions a travers la langue, le discours, le theatre, la poesie, les chants et les recits dans ces differentes societes? Avec trente-et-une contributions traitant de langues issues de tous les continents, le present ouvrage, qui resulte des travaux de recherche menes dans le programme Typologie de l’expression des emotions: syntaxe et semantique soutenu par la Federation de Recherche Typologie et Universaux Linguistiques (FR 2559 du CNRS), tente de repondre a ces questions en offrant un acces priviligie a l’expression et a la conceptualisation du champ emotionnel qui sont propres a chaque culture. Ces differentes chapitres sont regroupes en quatre sections majeures: 1. Emotion et communication, 2. Emotion et graphie, 3. Emotion et lexique, 4. Emotion et syntaxe. Les principales langues envisagees sont les suivantes: anglais, arabe hassaniyya, arabe oriental, arabe saoudien, arabe du Yemen, birman, chinois ancien, dalabon, egyptien ancien, francais, gbaya, haoussa, inuit, japonais, kilivila, madourais, maya classique, maya yucateque, langues oceaniennes, langues sudarabiques modernes, tamoul ancien, tamoul moderne, vietnamien, yaqui, yidiche, yulu, zande, zarma.
