Das Buch befasst sich mit den Konverbien eines im Altaigebiet gesprochenen Dialekts des Tuwinischen. Das Tuwinische ist eine turkische Sprache, deren Hauptverbreitungsgebiet (Republik Tuwa) in Sudsibirien liegt. Der hier untersuchte Dialekt wird im aussersten Westen der Mongolei, in Cengel-sum des Bezirkes Bajan Olgiy, gesprochen und hier als Altai-Tuwinisch bezeichnet. Das ausgewertete Dialektmaterial stammt aus Texten, die wahrend ethnographischer Feldforschungen in Cengel-sum aufgezeichnet und transkribiert worden sind. Konverbien, die in fast allen Turksprachen mehr oder weniger vorkommen und eine zentrale syntaktische Rolle spielen, sind nicht-finite Verbalformen, die weder Partizipien noch Verbalnomina darstellen, sondern hauptsachlich adverbiale Funktionen aufweisen. In Sprachen des europaischen Typs entsprechen sie oft adverbialen Nebensatzen. In diesem Werk werden die Konverbien des Altai-Tuwinischen – abgesehen von ihrer morphologischen Struktur – in Bezug auf ihre syntaktischen und semantischen Funktionen beschrieben, und zwar unter Vergleich mit den entsprechenden Formen des in Tuwa verwendeten Standardtuwinischen.
