Untersuchungen zur alttestamentlichen Monarchiekritik

English summary: Kingship and God’s reign – the Old Testament sees these two spheres as being complete opposites. This is unparalleled in the ancient Oriental world. It is especially challenging for the critical reconstruction of the history of theology of the Old Testament to try and explain the background of this theologoumenon. Reinhard Muller examines the texts concerned, and his diversified conclusions shed a new light on an area which is central to the history of the theology of the Old Testament. He places the conflicts surrounding kingship and the theological assessment of kingship in the early Persian era and shows that there are clear lines connecting these to the development of the covenant theology of the Old Testament. Mit diesen dem Richter Gideon in den Mund gelegten Worten formuliert das Alte Testament eine scharfe Antithese zwischen Konigtum und Gottesherrschaft, die in der Umwelt des Alten Testaments ihresgleichen sucht. Die Herleitung dieser und der verwandten Aussagen im Richter- und Samuelbuch stellen fur die kritische Rekonstruktion der alttestamentlichen Theologiegeschichte eine besondere Herausforderung dar. Handelt es sich dabei um Zeugnisse antimonarchischer Stromungen in der Fruhzeit Israels oder um in wenigen Satzen verdichtete Resultate theologischer Reflexion, die den Untergang der israelitischen und judaischen Konigtumer zu bewaltigen sucht?Reinhard Muller geht dieser Frage in einer Reihe voneinander weitgehend unabhangiger und sich gerade darum gegenseitig stutzender Einzelexegesen nach. Zutage kommt eine in der Forschung oft vernachlassigte Vielstimmigkeit der alttestamentlichen Beurteilungen des Konigtums. Die Auseinandersetzungen um die theologische Deutung des Konigtums werden in der fruhen Perserzeit verortet. Die kritischen Stimmen vertreten dabei kein politisches Programm, und von einer prinzipiellen Ablehnung staatlicher Gewalt kann keine Rede sein. Es ergeben sich deutliche Hinweise, dass die theologisch begrundete Monarchiekritik fur die Herausbildung der alttestamentlichen Bundestheologie eine nicht zu unterschatzende Bedeutung gehabt hat.
