Fur die Ausstellung Stimmen vom Nil – Altagypten im Spiegel seiner Texte im Fruhjahr 2003 im Staatlichen Agyptischen Museum Munchen waren zahlreiche wichtige und beruhmte, literarische wie nichtliterarische Textzeugen zusammengetragen worden. Aus diesem Anlass veranstalteten das Agyptische Museum und das Agyptologische Institut der LudwigMaximiliansUniversitat gemeinsam vom 1. bis 3.5.2003 ein Symposion unter dem Thema Spurensuche, dessen Vortrage in diesem Band vorgelegt werden. Sie bieten aus inhaltlicher und aus chronologischer Sicht eine grosse thematische Bandbreite: Vom Mittleren Reich bis in die Spatantike werden einzelne Themen oder Textgruppen vorgestellt bzw. von unterschiedlichen methodischen Ansatzen her analysiert; so enstand ganz nebenbei auch ein Spiegelbild der gegenwartigen intensiven Diskussion um Fragen wie “Was ist agyptische Literatur?”, “Welche Stoffe oder Motive finden sich in den Texten?” oder “Welche Verfahren der formalen und der inhaltlichen Analyse sind angemessen?”. Auch grundsatzliche methodische Fragen wurden ebenso detailliert wie kritisch diskutiert. Der Band enthalt samtliche Vortrage des Symposions und eine zusammenfassende Einleitung.
