Der Prolog Mt 1-4 zeigt einerseits Bezuge zur Exoduserzahlung, andererseits stammen die Erfullungszitate aus prophetischen Texten. Wie hangt beides miteinander zusammen? Franz Toth bietet eine detaillierte Interpretation von Mt 1-4 und stellt die Jesuserzahlung in den Rahmen der Schriften Israels und ihrer nachbiblischen Rezeptionsgeschichte, insbesondere der sog. Rewritten Scripture. Dabei kommt den Exodusdiskursen zentrale Bedeutung zu. Matthaus kreiert eine Erzahlung, in der Jesus die Mose- und Israelgeschichte nacherlebt, und prazisiert dies durch die Erfullungszitate. Mit deren Hilfe deutet Matthaus das Jesusgeschehen als Ende des Exils und neuen Exodus, in dem Jesus als davidischer Messias sein Volk befreit. Der Exodus bundelt also mehrere theologische Konzepte und fuhrt in die Sinnmitte der matthaischen Theologie. Daraus ergeben sich Konsequenzen fur die Tragerkreise des Matthausevangeliums. Das Matthausevangelium ist ein Grundungsdokument, das die Identitat einer judenchristlichen Gemeinde in Analogie zur Grundgeschichte Israels bildet und festigt.
