German description: Der Band enthalt historische, theologische und exegetische Studien von Karl-Wilhelm Niebuhr zu Paulus und seinen Briefen. Den Ausgangspunkt bildet eine prazise biographische Einordnung des Heidenapostels in das Judentum der hellenistisch-romischen Zeit. Sie wirkt sich in der Bedeutung der Tora fur sein Leben und Wirken aus. Bestimmend fur seinen Lebensgang wie fur die Theologie, die sich in seinen Briefen niederschlagt, wurde seine Begegnung mit dem auferstandenen Christus und der Auftrag, das Christus-Evangelium den Heidenvolkern zu verkunden. Damit hat Paulus aber nicht seine Identitat als Israelit abgelegt und hinter sich gelassen. Vielmehr zeigt sich, dass er sein Judesein zeit seines Lebens als theologisch wesentlichen Faktor in die Reflexion des Evangeliums einbezogen hat. Die Frage nach Israel im Zusammenhang des Christus-Evangeliums ist damit ein zentrales Element der paulinischen Theologie.
