Das Buch behandelt die finiten aspektotemporalen und evidentiellen Kategorien des Nogaischen, das in der Geschichte Zentralasiens eine erhebliche Bedeutung hatte und heute in verschiedenen nordkaukasischen Gebieten Russlands gesprochen wird. Es gehort mit dem Kasachischen, Karakalpakischen, Kirgisischen und Kiptschak-Usbekischen zu der sudlichen (aralo-kaspischen) Subgruppe des nordwestlichen (kiptschakischen) Zweiges der Turksprachen. Die linguistische Beschreibung des hochst komplexen Verbalsystems der nogaischen Sprache, die bis jetzt nur unzulanglich erforscht worden ist, basiert auf einer Fulle von Sprachmaterialien: Neben Texten der modernen und traditionellen Literatur, Zeitungsberichten, Schulbuchern und Sprachaufzeichnungen anderer Forscher werden wahrend eines Feldforschungsaufenthaltes erhobene Aufnahmen gesprochener Sprache und aus Informantenbefragungen gewonnene Daten in der Analyse herangezogen.
