The volume assembles a wide variety of research papers on phonetics, phonology, syntax, morphology, semantics, as well as language acquisition, discourse analysis, pragmatics, language contact studies, receptive multilingualism, and sociolinguistics. The 58 articles, written specifically for this collection, give an informative overview of the current topics in the field. All papers have been double blind peer-reviewed; thus, the volume reflects the state of the art of Turkish and Turkic linguistics, though without aspiring to the rank of an encyclopedia. The contributions are grouped under the following seven headings: Phonetics & Phonology, Syntax & Morphology, First and Second Language Acquisition, Discourse, Semantics & Pragmatics, Language Contact & Sociolinguistics, Turkic Languages as well as Prospective in Turkic Languages. The volume does not only offer a variety of theoretical linguistic positions but also findings of empirical research based on small or large corpora, (transcribed) production data obtained from L1/L2 language learners (children and adults), and acoustic analysis of speech data. The authors are linguists and turkologists from various Turkish, European, American, and Japanese universities, adding an extensive geographical spread to the wide scope of analyses. The Ankara Papers in Turkish and Turkic Linguistics can be expected to stimulate the interest in the topics investigated and to pave the way to new research arenas in the years to come.
