English summary: Reinhard Hillmann examines Ugarit marriage law starting with the clauses that refer to marriage law in ancient Babylonian and middle Assyrian legal texts and also by taking a look at the Alalakh texts, texts from the great bend in the Euphrates (Emar) and the Amarna letters. In doing so he attempts to find evidence of connections between matrimonial law in the Old Testament of the Iron Age and the preceding Babylonian and Assyrian tradition. In the process, he looks at Genesis 34: 11b-12 in a new way. The author refutes the opinion that dowries in Ugarit were returned to the family of the husband by the father of the bride. Furthermore, his analysis reveals various aspects of Ugaritic marriage customs for which the Nikkal text (CAT 1.24) as well as CAT 1100 are of key significance. Hillmann sees CAT 1100 as a form of libretto for an acutely dangerous mythological game involving snakes, in which danger is overcome by the marriage of the God Horon to the female protector of grazing livestock.
