Daruber hinaus werden metapherntheoretische Uberlegungen und judische Auslegungen in die Interpretation einbezogen. Ausgewahlte Psalmentexte werden in ihren Verknupfungen zu anderen biblischen und ausserbiblischen Kontexten gelesen. Die Autorin entfaltet in ihren sprachlichen Analysen Implikationen der Geburtsbilder fur alttestamentliche Anthropologie und Theologie. In ihnen zeigt sich die Mehrdimensionalitat des alttestamentlichen Menschenbildes: die korperliche, die personale, die soziale und die transzendentale Ebene sind immer miteinander verknupft. Geburt ist ein Ereignis intensiver Beziehung und Wechselwirkung zwischen Gott und Mensch. Die Geburtsmetaphorik der Psalmen zeigt, dass alttestamentliche Gottesbilder eine Weite haben, die neben zahlreichen mannlich gepragten auch weibliche Elemente umfasst. Die Untersuchung legt besonderes Augenmerk auf Ambivalenzen und Schattenseiten der Fruchtbarkeit: Vor dem Hintergrund der prinzipiell hohen Bewertung von Fruchtbarkeit in der Hebraischen Bibel und ihrer Umwelt wird auch ihre Kehrseite, die Unfruchtbarkeit, besonders beleuchtet. Ein Ausblick auf Perspektiven von den alttestamentlichen Texten zu gegenwartigen Bioethik-Diskussionen uber den Beginn des menschlichen Lebens rundet das Buch ab.
