El metodo empleado se inscribe en la corriente de analisis estructural del relato, una tecnica de estudio linguistico-literario muy joven aun, pero liena de esperanzas, y de un gran porvenir,. Reconociendo que la metodologia estructural no ha cristalizado todavia en un sistema acabado, sino que va avanzado por tanteos progresivos, he tratado de exponer mi concepcion personal del metodo, no en una sintesis teorica, sino en la practica concreta; el metodo se va configurando como tal en el curso de los analisis. El centro primario de interes de la metodologia estructural consiste en poner al descubierto los elementos diferenciales que tejen la obra unitaria, y las correlaciones que se establecen entre las diversas unidades. En el relato concretamente, el analisis estructural abarca tres niveles complementarios: formal. Semantico, narrativo. El nivel formal se extiende por la superficie de texto. Palabras claves, construcciones gramaticales, formulas expresivas, etc., se van repitiendo estrategicamente en el curso de la lectura, y confieren a la linea textual las rugosidades y contrastes de una superficie en relieve. La narracion es esencialmente linear, y se caracteriza por la presencia, velada o manifesta, del narrador intratextual, que maneja todos los hilos diferenciales de acontecimientos y personajes, en continua comunicacion con su lector-destinatario.
