German description: In welchem Verhaltnis standen die ersten heidenchristlichen Gemeinden zu ihrer heidnischen Umwelt? Die Christen waren nicht voll integriert und auch nicht voll integrierbar in die antike Gesellschaft – so formulierte es vor wenigen Jahren der Munsteraner Neutestamentler Dietrich-Alex Koch, der sich im Rahmen seiner langjahrigen Forschungstatigkeit intensiv mit Person und Werk des Apostels Paulus sowie mit dessen Spuren in der antiken Welt auseinandergesetzt hat. Dieser Beobachtung zum Trotz sind die Botschaft des Paulus und das Leben der fruhen Christengemeinden nicht ohne das Wissen um deren antike Verankerung – im hellenistischen Judentum sowie in der hellenistisch-romischen Gesellschaft und Kultur – zu verstehen. Anlasslich des 65. Geburtstages von Dietrich-Alex Koch und seiner Verabschiedung aus dem aktiven Hochschuldienst melden sich Schuler und Weggefahrten zu Wort, um an einzelnen Beispielen die Grenzen und die Bedeutung religions- und zeitgeschichtlicher Erforschung des Neuen Testaments auszuloten. Abschliessend wird die gegenwartige Bedeutung von Werk und Person des Apostels im schulischen Religionsunterricht reflektiert. Dabei spiegelt die hier vertretene Reichhaltigkeit der Zugange zugleich auch die Breite der Interessensgebiete des Jubilars wider.
