English summary: Thedoctrine of Gregory the Great, the first monk on the papal throne, had asignificant influence on medieval theology and particularly on Western mysticaltradition. Against the backdrop of the collapse of the ancientcivilization at the end of the 6th century, Gregory developed a theology whichwas rooted in the Latin tradition, had a strong eschatological orientation, andupon which the antithesis temporalis – aeternus had a determininginfluence.
