The critical approach to matrimonial law in the oeuvre of Flavius Josephus presented in this volume examines the originality of a legal system developed at the crossroads of two culturesJewish and Hellenistic. How, in the second half of the first century of our era, does the Jewish historian address his contemporaries? What borrowings did he make from the vocabulary, metaphors, and other concepts available in the thought of his time? The main rules governing Jewish marriage law at the beginning of the Christian era is studied here from its sources of inspiration.
