Israele storico e biblico. Storia, tradizione, archivi di R.G. Kratz raccoglie in un’unica trattazione ambiti interconnessi fra loro, ma solitamente trattati separatamente da filoni di studio specifici: la storia di Israele, la storia della formazione della Bibbia Ebraica o Antico Testamento e lo studio degli archivi contenenti manoscritti giudaici (Elefantina, El-Yahud, Qumran) e particolarmente legati alla trasmissione della tradizione biblica (Garizim, Gerusalemme, Alessandria). Il libro si fonda su una distinzione fondamentale tra la storia di Israele e Giuda (“Israele storico”) e la storia sacra narrata dalla tradizione biblica (“Israele biblico”), due prospettive distinte anche se inevitabilmente dipendenti per molti aspetti l’una dall’altra. Nella prima parte del libro, la storia di Israele e di Giuda viene ricostruita essenzialmente sui ritrovamenti archeologici ed epigrafici e su ulteriori informazioni che possono essere ottenute dall’analisi critica delle fonti bibliche e dall’analogia storica. Nella seconda parte, la nascita e lo sviluppo della tradizione biblica vengono indagati attraverso l’analisi critica delle fonti letterarie, da cui risulta una cronologia relativa della tradizione. Nella terza parte, vengono illustrati siti e archivi contenenti testi epigrafici e letterari di epoche diverse, che talvolta risultano significativi per lo studio della storia, talvolta per lo studio della tradizione e occasionalmente per lo studio di entrambe.
