Sulayman ibn Hasan al-Gazzi was a Melkite bishop at Gaza between the tenth and eleventh centuries. He is the author of a Diwan and of a corpus of theological, homiletic and apologetic treatises. The life and works of Sulayman al-Gazzi have been studied since the beginning of the last century; however, the entire algazzianus corpus was only published for the first time by Neophytos Edelby in the 980s. This edition includes only the theological prose writings published and translated into Italian. The main achievement of this new edition consists of the attempt to reconstruct the archetype of tradition in accordance with the neolachmanian rules of textual criticism.
English summary: Sulayman ibn Hasan al-Gazzi was a Melkite bishop at Gaza between the tenth and eleventh centuries. The linguistic characteristics of Middle Arab have been respected and preserved in the critical text just as they appear in the pi-old manuscript source, while a critical apparatus has been entirely dedicated to the recording of variants attested in the other witness accounts. The publisher has thus, tried to respect both the author’s will (expressed by textual content) as well as the linguistic form of the texts to which they originally belong.
