In his study, Michael Georg Maier uses the purely graphical Hittite ‘uant’ to illustrate the Indo-Germanic possessive suffix ‘*-uent’ and to distinguish it from other types of word formation. In order to achieve this, the current state of debate on each lemma is examined, critically assessed and brought to a conclusion. Where necessary, quotes from original sources are also provided along with suggestions for new approaches. Since Hittite is part of the network of Anatolian languages, the volume also takes the Luwian languages into account in order to also evaluate the findings in these less well-documented neighboring languages. Thanks to the progress made in the coverage of both philological as well as Anatolian and Indo-Germanic elements, this study can be considered as exemplary for the research of word-formation in the Anatolian languages.
