In den 145 Briefen dieses Jahres zeichnet sich eine betrachtliche Ausweitung des Korrespondentenkreises und der geographischen Ausdehnung des Briefwechsels ab. Thematische Schwerpunkte sind u.a. Zurichs Streit mit den katholischen Orten um das Messemandat von 1532, die Solothurner Reformationswirren, Klagen und Bitten vertriebener Pfarrer und theologische Fragen im Zusammenhang mit den Taufern. Der Zurcher Reformator Heinrich Bullinger (1504-1575), Nachfolger Huldrych Zwinglis, gehort zu den bedeutenden historischen Personlichkeiten des 16. Jahrhunderts. Durch seine breitgefacherte schriftstellerische Tatigkeit ubte er grossen Einfluss aus und hat vielerorts zur Durchfuhrung oder Konsolidierung der Reformation beigetragen.
