Graber und Grufte in Assur II
Die mittelassyrische Zeit
by Friedhelm Pedde
English summary: This volume presents a discussion about 215 graves and crypts from the Middle Assyrian Period in Assur, an era that lasted from about the 15th century B.C.E. to the 11th/10th century B.C.E. Within this span of time, the construction of the tombs can be divided into three phases: the early Middle Assyrian Period (15th/14th centuries B.C.E.), the high Middle Assyrian Period (the 13th century B.C.E.), and the late Middle Assyrian Period (12th-10th centuries B.C.E.) The graves and crypts of these three phases are distinguished from each other through the different types of construction methods or forms as well as through various funerary ceramics and other grave goods. The constructions methods, the grave goods, and the connections between the burials are discussed in separate chapters, which are followed by an extensive catalog, tables, and a graphic section in which each sepulcher is listed with distinctive information including excavation information and photos and plans of the graves and crypts as well as photos and descriptions of the grave goods. This evidence is able to show that the funerary structures in Assur within the Middle Assyrian Period are fairly different and that they changed throughout the era.
