Die Veroffentlichung des Bandes bietet zusammen mit den bisher publizierten Banden der Reihe “Mittelassyrische Rechtsurkunden und Verwaltungstexte V-VII” die Voraussetzung, die Strukturen und Prozesse in der Opferverwaltung des Assurtempels, dem zentralen Heiligtum des assyrischen Staates, deutlich zu machen. Im Einzelnen lassen die hier veroffentlichten Texte Kontinuitaten und Diskontinuitaten im Verwaltungsgeschehen uber einen Zeitraum von ca. 100 Jahren (Laufzeit des Archivs im 12./11. Jh.v. Chr.) erkennen. Sie stellen einen Baustein dar fur eine generelle Untersuchung administrativer Strukturen und Prozesse im assyrischen Staat (basierend auf weiteren Archiven aus dem Bereich der Palastverwaltung, die im Rahmen des Assur-Projekts fur die Publikation vorbereitet werden). Das Archiv der Opferverwaltung des Assurtempels ermoglicht den Vergleich mit anderen Verwaltungssystemen im Alten Orient und in der Alten Welt. Im innermesopotamischen Bereich lasst sich unterschiedliches Verwaltungsgebaren im Hinblick auf die Formen institutioneller Wirtschaft in Babylonien und Assyrien beobachten.
