Das ethische Denken des Evangelisten Lukas ist stark durch dessen Gottesbild gepragt, wobei die Barmherzigkeit als eine der zentralen Charakteristika Gottes zum Vorschein tritt. Eine dergestalt vom Motiv der Barmherzigkeit durchdrungene Ethik stellt im Miteinander und im Gegenuber zu anderen antik-hellenistischen Ethikkonzeptionen ein Novum dar. Dabei argumentiert Lukas nicht frei von den Denkstrukturen seiner Umwelt, sondern ist vielmehr selbst ein Teil der hellenistischen Kultur. Simon Wandel erlautert, wie sich im Vergleich mit fruhjudischen und hellenistisch-romischen Texten einerseits das Eingebettet-Sein des Evangelisten in die ethischen Denkmuster seiner Zeit zeigt und andererseits, wo die lukanische Ethik der Barmherzigkeit ihre provokative Kraft entfaltet.
