Archaologisch ist das Gebiet zwischen den beiden Nilarmen, dem von Damiette und dem von Rosette, bisher wenig erforscht. Das hat seinen Grund vor allem in der Naturbeschaffenheit dieser Gegend. Sie besteht nicht nur aus fruchtbarem Ackerland, sondern ist auch sehr dicht besiedelt. Daher sind geeignete Stellen fur Ausgrabungen dort schwer zu finden. Die meisten Fundplatze im Zentraldelta sind der Antikenverwaltung nur durch Zufall bekannt geworden, so auch die in dieser Arbeit beschriebene Ausgrabungsstatte in der Gegend zwischen Mostai, dem altagyptischen Msd.t, im Norden und Banha im Suden. Seit mehreren Jahren dient diese Stelle als Sandlieferant fur Bauvorhaben und andere industrielle Zwecke. Beim Abbau stiess man hier auf antike Baulichkeiten und Gegenstande.Die bei den Grabungsarbeiten auf dem sog. Kom el-Rimal entdeckte Nekropole gehort zur ca. 7 km sudlich davon gelegenen Stadt Athribis, der ehemaligen Metropole des 10. unteragyptischen Gaus, wie aus einer an Ort und Stelle gefundenen Sarkophaginschrift hervorgeht. Diese und weitere Sarkophagtexte belegen eine enge Verbindung zum Osiriskult in Athribis. Die Baureste und Einzelfunde werden ausfuhrlich beschrieben.
