Taking a history of science-based approach, this volume concerns itself with the “Badische Grabungen” (Baden excavations) in central Egyptian Qarara and el-Hibethe, which were planned and financed by the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and the Scientific Society of Freiburg during 1913 and 1914. The collection of excavation journals, photos, records of discoveries as well as detailed correspondence, files and reports allows for a unique and fascinating insight into the planning and operation of the excavations, the organizations and people involved as well as the distribution and the state of preservation of the findings. An extensive body of specialist literature listed in a selected bibliography documents the academic analysis of the findings. German text.
