Nachdem der Jakobusbrief jahrzehntelang ein Schattendasein in der Forschung zum Neuen Testament gefuhrt hat, ist in den vergangenen Jahren das Interesse an dieser Schrift neu erwacht. Christian Bemmerl prasentiert in seiner Studie eine immer noch ausstehende Darstellung und Diskussion der Spuren des Jakobusbriefs bis einschliesslich der Zeit des Origenes. Seine eingehenden Textanalysen liefern eine Antwort auf die Frage, in welchen Texten tatsachlich die Rede von einer Rezeption des Jakobusbriefs sein kann. Damit lassen sich die historischen Kontexte und theologischen Diskurse, in welchen der Jakobusbrief eine Rolle spielte, naher beschreiben. Gerade die Erkenntnisse aus der Rezeption des Jakobusbriefes bei Origenes machen neue Aussagen uber die Entstehungszusammenhange des Textes moglich und helfen, seinen Weg zu einer kanonischen Schrift genauer als bisher zu zeichnen. So kann die Arbeit auch einen Beitrag zur viel diskutierten Frage nach der Entstehung des neutestamentlichen Kanons liefern.
