Detaillierte Exegesen, die sich mit den einzelnen Fragen des Textes befassen und mit der neueren, internationalen Auslegungsgeschichte auseinandersetzen, fuhren zu folgender Hypothese: Der erste Petrusbrief entwickelt eine christologisch begrundete reflektierte Strategie des Gewaltverzichts, mit welcher die Christinnen und Christen, die in ihrem Glauben eine Orientierung und einen Sinn ihrer Existenz gefunden haben, von ihrer Hoffnung in ihren Hausern und in der hellenistischen Gesellschaft Rechenschaft ablegen.
