The contributions in this volume assess the value of the acoustic in the Middle Ages and evaluate its importance in medieval literature. Wahrend in den letzten Jahren insbesondere die visuelle Kultur des Mittelalters im Zentrum mediavistischen Interesses stand, fehlen bislang noch weitgehend Uberlegungen zur Bedeutung des Auditiven, von Klang und Horen fur die hofische Kultur. Die hier vorliegenden Untersuchungen (von John Greenfield, Harald Haferland, Susanne Knaeble, Andreas Krass, Claudia Lauer, William Layher, Silvan Wagner und Viola Wittmann) stellen konsequent die Frage nach der Moglichkeit einer wissenschaftlichen Restitution des scheinbar Entschwundenen: dem “horbaren” Mittelalter. Das “Ohrenmerk” des Bandes richtet sich auf Situationen in und ausserhalb der Dichtung, in denen akustische Phanomene oder deren Rezeption neue Einsichten uber mittelalterliche Kulturproduktion vermitteln.
