Joachim Barth bietet einen innovativen Zugang zur Offenbarung des Johannes. In seiner uberwiegend kosmisch-astralen Interpretation der Offenbarung des Johannes versteht Barth die Apokalypse als das Ergebnis einer mundanastrologischen Auseinandersetzung mit der Wirklichkeit. In Aufnahme und Abgrenzung zur griechisch-romischen Astrologie und Astralmythologie und unter Ruckgriff auf die biblische Tradition uberschreibt Johannes – so die These – die antiken Sternbilder mit judisch-christlichen Inhalten und sieht in ihnen christlich-mythologische Figuren. Durch eine derartige Umdeutung von Sternen und Sternbildern schafft der Apokalyptiker eine ausgepragt kosmische Theologie und Christologie. Mittels der Himmelsdynamik zeigt sich dem Seher am Himmel sowohl die Vergangenheit als auch die Zukunft des bestehenden Aons, dessen zentrale kosmische Mitte die Auferstehung und der Auferstandene bildet. Die astralmythologische Umdeutung der Sternenkonstellationen stellt folglich den “Subtext” der Apokalypse des Johannes dar, der dem Makrotext erst seine Koharenz verleiht. Dem Autor gelingt es, hier zwei grosse Probleme der Apokalypse-Forschung einer Losung zuzufuhren: (1) Zum einen die Frage nach der Art der visionaren Erfahrung des Propheten, (2) zum anderen das Problem der fehlenden (narrativen) Koharenz der Apokalypse.
