Les villes d’Eregli, Amasra, Sinop, Samsun, Giresun, Ordu, et Trabzon qui sont implantees sur la cote nord de la Turquie, ainsi qu’Amasya a l’interieur des terres, sont dotees d’un musee. Les amphores constituent une part importante de leur collection et sont dans un tres bon etat de conservation, car elles ont ete trouvees en mer. La plupart ont ete produites dans les grands centres installes sur le pourtour de la mer Noire a l’epoque romaine entre le IIe/IIIe s. et le VIIe s. de ne. Reunies dans ce Corpus, elles sont etudiees a la lumiere des recherches les plus recentes. Les productions de Sinope et de la Colchide sont particulierement bien representees et peuvent etre suivies sur plusieurs siecles sans interruption. Cet assemblage de pres de 450 conteneurs offre une vue generale de l’activite amphorique en mer Noire et montre des similitudes et les differences dans les traits techniques et morphologiques d’un atelier a l’autre.Il a egalement permis d’aborder quelques questions qui sont inherentes a l’etude des amphores, comme les produits commercialises, l’association de la forme et des ressources regionales, ou encore la standardisation des volumes et le paiement de l’annona.
