Les trente-deux contributions de cet ouvrage sont réunies pour honorer la carrière de Didier Devauchelle, l’égyptologue et le philologue, à l’occasion de son 70e anniversaire. Ce dernier étant un démotisant renommé, le lecteur ne sera pas surpris qu’une large part de ce recueil regroupe des études de documents démotiques, souvent inédits. Les articles touchent à des domaines aussi variés que la religion, l’histoire, la philologie ou encore la littérature. À côté de travaux portant notamment sur la comptabilité, le droit, la lexicographie et la prosopographie, figurent aussi le Sérapéum de Memphis et le culte du taureau sacré Apis – un sujet au cœur de l’œuvre scientifique de Didier Devauchelle –, le tout composant un ensemble dont la diversité thématique témoigne de l’insatiable curiosité du récipiendaire pour tout ce qui touche à l’Égypte ancienne.
