by S. Doane
English summary: The role of the real reader as a creator of meaning has been underestimated in Bible studies. The analysis of the reader’s response examines the reception of literary works and the reader’s role in interpretation. Inspired by Stanley Fish and Robert Hurley, this book moves from theoretical readers (implicit, model, ideal) to real readers. What are the effects felt when reading Mt 1-2? Through an innovative methodological approach, this book answers the question by describing the effects of this text in a sequential reading seen as a process that takes place over time, with attention to the tension felt through the interplay of suspense, curiosity, and surprise. Based on the effects of the text, it appears that from the first verses, the Gospel according to Matthew seeks to confuse its readers to prepare them for a disconcerting story.
