La rivista si propone come luogo di ricerca e di dibattito aperto, democratico, senza reti e su basi rigorosamente scientifiche aliene da dogmatismi e appartenenze a consorterie. Inoltre, poiché si ritengono maturi i tempi per superare insoddisfacenti definizioni e artificiosi steccati burocratici sorti in precisi momenti storici, politici e culturali, la cui intrinseca debolezza scientifica è oggi più chiara di quanto non lo sia stata nel passato, Codex nasce con una forte vocazione interdisciplinare delle scienze giusromanistiche e antichistiche, come fa fede il sottotitolo Giornale romanistico di studi giuridici politici e sociali. Negli auspici della Direzione, consapevole dell’alto valore dell’interdisciplinarietà , purtroppo, ancora più declamato che praticato, l’impegno sarà quello di fare di Codex un piccolo ma concreto esempio di un luminoso insegnamento di Karl Popper, secondo cui non si è studiosi di certe materie ma di problemi e questi, con la loro connaturata incoercibilità , attraversano i confini di qualunque materia o disciplina.
