The Berlin Africa Conference of 1884/1885 was and remains a controversial event of global significance. 140 years later, this anthology highlights the interests of some of the powers and players involved in the conference. Above all, however, the collected essays examine the immediate and long-term consequences of the conference for the regions of Africa that were the subject of the negotiations.
Holger Afflerbach ist Professor für moderne europäische Geschichte an der University of Leeds.
Sabine Mangold-Will, Dr., ist Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin der Otto-von-Bismarck-Stiftung in Friedrichsruh und außerplanmäßige Professorin für Neuere und Neueste Geschichte an der Bergischen Universität Wuppertal.
Ulf Morgenstern, Dr., ist Lehrbeauftragter an der Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel und seit 2024 Geschäftsführer der Otto-von-Bismarck-Stiftung.
Joachim Scholtyseck lehrt als Professor für Neuere und Neueste Geschichte an der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn und ist seit 2016 Vorsitzender des Wissenschaftlichen Beirats der Otto-von-Bismarck-Stiftung.
