The treasure trove of Becin (near present-day Milas in southwest Turkey), discovered in 2000, is the largest hoard ever found in Turkey in the course of regular archaeological excavations, with almost 50,000 Islamic and over 800 European coins, and at the same time the largest Ottoman coin hoard ever found. This volume presents the results of the archaeological, historical, economic-historical and numismatic analyses carried out by a Turkish-Austrian research team.
Der im Jahr 2000 entdeckte Schatzfund von Becin (beim heutigen Milas in der Sudwest-Turkei) ist mit knapp 50.000 islamischen und uber 800 europaischen Munzen der grosste Hort, der jemals in der Turkei im Zuge regularer archaologischer Grabungen gefunden wurde, und zugleich der grosste osmanische Munzschatz uberhaupt. Der vorliegende Band stellt die Ergebnisse der archaologischen, historischen, wirtschaftsgeschichtlichen und numismatischen Analysen vor, die von einem turkisch-osterreichischen Forschungsteam erarbeitet wurden. Die grosse Menge osmanischer Munzen ermoglichte ein in dieser Feinheit bisher unbekanntes Verstandnis des osmanischen Pragesystems im spaten 16. und fruhen 17. Jahrhundert. Auf dieser Grundlage wird der Quellenwert der Munze fur die osmanische Wirtschafts- und Verwaltungsgeschichte revolutioniert. Auch fur die numismatische Beschaftigung mit der Munzpragung des Osmanischen Reiches wird dieser Band richtungweisend sein.
