English summary: The study of Magadhi Prakrit is essential for the understanding of Jainism, one of modern India’s most well established and influential religions. Despite this, no German based introduction to this middle Indian language has so far existed. To fill this gap, the renowned Indologist Klaus Mylius has produced the first German language textbook on Magadhi Prakrit. Although the material has been clearly structured he avoids an overabundance of forms and rules. The textbook is complemented by practice tutorials and two detailed glossaries.
